FRS ends the 2016 OPE with close to three million passengers

According to civil protection, the 2016 Strait Transit Operation ended with a total of 2,822,328 passengers and 557,861 vehicles, transiting the ports between Spain and Morocco. With the return of the OPE, from July 15 to September 13, the ports of Tangier Med, Tanger Ville and Ceuta, were the busiest, welcoming 1,040,949 passengers and 235,873 vehicles.

New this year, FRS operated the Motril-Tangier Med-Motril route, and incorporated a new vessel, Al Andalus Express, to its fleet. The shipping company contributed to the smooth functioning of the OPE with six vessels and a 50% expansion of its teams. FRS increased its rotations for Ceuta-Algeciras, Tanger Ville-Tarifa and Algeciras-Tangier MED routes during weekends associated with peak traffic to facilitate travel for customers as well as reduce waiting time. Javier Alvarez, Director of FRS operations ensured that « the functioning of the OPE was a success thanks to the collaboration of the authorities and shipping companies ».
